Welcome to week three!!! Already!!!

Here is our weekly update...

Last week, we saw our virtue of creativity being show cased.
Art day was fantastic, not only do our artworks rock the foyer, but I was so impressed with the TEAMWORK shown throughout the day.  I was impressed by the way your small people encouraged each other, gave praise, showed the way and congratulated on a job well done.
I was impressed by the choices some small people made.  Art may not be their favourite or most skilled topic, but gave 110% and never gave up.  Truly showing EXCELLENCE, even when their learning is a challenge.  Tino Pai!

I hope you all enjoyed the poems that our creative writers compiled on Friday,   Poetry is a great way for the children to hear rhyme, which helps them make connections between words they already know and new ones.

We worked together to make a FAB4 for our writing books.  We had lots of discussions, matched ideas together and eliminated some.  We are making the final draft early this week, so ask your FAB4 learner what they need to remember when writing.
I will put a final copy of this on the blog, it would be amazing if you could write a comment,  that congratulates and/or states that your small person knows the FAB4.

Apologies for not having the Basic Facts race sorted, we are working on this, this week.  You will also find, in the numbers notebook, the small persons login for Mathletics.  I am setting a basic facts focus to start, to encourage self management of their learning.

This week, we are setting up our reading program.  We will be using aspects of DAILY FIVE system:
·      Reading to Myself
·      Reading to a buddy
·      Listening to Reading
·      Practice Writing
·      Working with words

It is a great system, but as you can imagine, does take a little ‘training’ to run effectively.  Students need to be able to work with stamina – ask your small person what that means when learning.

Reading boxes are shared with their buddies.  Sometimes the wrong book can be grabbed, so if a book comes home either too easy or too hard, perhaps you could share it together or read something from home.  Thanks for understanding.

We are looking at working in small groups and solving problems together in maths.  I am looking forward to seeing tomorrow’s leaders in action.

Have a great week, we surely will J
