WOW! Super Teamwork!

Teamwork in Action!

This week we have changed our groups, we got to think about who we work with best and each others strengths and selected our own groups.  We selected leaders and have a a few tasks that we have worked on together.  We have been helping each other find parts of our writing that match our success criteria and thinking about next learning steps.
We have been working really well together to help people learn their goals for the basic facts race.  We have been teaching each other new activities and what to do on websites.  We have been encouraging each other throughout our cross country training and we congratulate each other on our successes.

One of our virtues is TEAMWORK, we are all showing what this looks like in our classroom!

FAB-4 Rocks!!!

Keep up the great work and awesome attitudes

Give this a go...

Today we had a little bit of fun with this website.
It is a place where we can all become authors. You can use the gorgeous artworks to illustrate your ideas.
It is free to sign up and you can order the books that you create.
We are going to have an account for our class so everyone can access and save their stories.

Super fun writing!!!

Outside Measurement Fun

Today we looked at measurement over one metre and looked at how to record this.  It was a gorgeous day so we went outside and measured ourselves.  We saw some great teamwork and we now know how to record measurements that contain a decimal point.

welcome to week three!!

We looked at seeds last week and how they dispersed.  We are going to be looking at experiments with plants, growing seeds and plants in different things and comparing their growth rate.  These experiments will take some time and will be an on-going classroom activity.  This will also be a chance to put our measurement knowledge into practise.

Last week we completed some creative writing on a spooky theme.  We will be looking at this to find our strengths and weaknesses and working out how we can make improvements.  Next we are looking at procedural writing, this will help us set up our experiments.  We will also be continuing creative writing and looking at ways to describe images of far away places.

In maths we are continuing with measurement and looking at converting between different units of measure.  We will also learn how to track this measurement on a graph.  We continue to focus on our basic facts race on Wednesdays, the competition is heating up!

For reading we are reading and following procedures to show we understand them.

We are training for our cross country daily and looking at kicking and passing with large balls too.

Spooky Writing

This week, we have been working on adding detail to our ideas.  We have had a spooky theme and have been doing a lot of buddy reflections.  These reflections help us check that we have successful with our learning intention.
We broke down the different parts of the story so we could focus on one section at a time, this worked well.

Here is an example of a fab-4 writer.... there will be more to come!

It was a stormy night.  Me and my friend Sophia had a sleep over.  Sophia was sleep walking.  She went out of the bedroom.  She woke up and said “where am I?’ She was scared.  Then I said “where is SophiaI hope she is not in the haunted castle!”  Sophia was happy because she was with me, Maia.  We heard a sniffle and a snuffle, in front of the skeletonsomeone was coming.   We heard a terrifying meow! Me and Sophia ran and ran, our hearts were beating!  We hid behind the curtain.  The pesky cat just passed us behind the curtain.  We saw an open window behind us.  It was quite hairy and scary but we were brave and went through it.  We escaped!  We ran as fast as a flash and returned home.  “Now that was a good adventure!” Sophia said.

What's gonna work? TEAMWORK!

Today we made estimates about length.  It was great to see many children getting their estimates very close to the accurate measurements.
We practised working on our groups, we had to assign jobs this week, this meant there are a lot of discussion and more importantly, listening to each other.
The children were great at comparing items and their length, finding using a metre ruler quite different to the ones in their tote trays.

Maia helps her group out by
finding the height of the table.

Jack and Benjamin work together to accurately
measure their desk - Is it the same height as the one Maia is working on?

Ashleigh is measuring the length of the stapler....how close was your estimate?

Arianna measures the width of the sink.

Charlotte is giving Skylia good advice on how to read the ruler.

Jack and Makayla are having a race to see who
can measure the height of the whiteboard first.

We are looking at seeds this week, learning everything we can before we begin our experiments next week.  We talked about how seeds are distributed, we had lots of giggles when we talked about animals and birds poop carrying seeds around.

Your homework tonight is to see if you can find some seeds for us to share on our investigation table.

Welcome to week 2, term 2

What an excellent start to the term we have had.  It is great to see all the smiles and the enthusiasm for learning from the fabulous kids in room 4.  We welcome Arianna and Skylia to our class.

There are a few changes this term, we are working on practising our key competencies and virtues by doing a lot of work in groups.  It is a different for some children, but it is all a learning curve that we will be successful at.  I shall keep you up to date through our blog.

We are looking at a science/technology based theme this term with lots of experiments and designing.  We are starting off looking at what plants need to grown, making comparisons and creating special conditions to suit our experiments It is going to be a lot of hands on work and heaps of fun.

We are working on knowing what good writing looks likethinking about what we can do to excite our audience and making sure we are editing our work to make it better.  This also involves a lot of reflection and buddy work.

We are continuing with our basic facts race track and also learning about measurement.  We are learning to make good estimates and then accurately measure length with a ruler.  We will also be looking at volume when we are working on our experiments.

I am looking forward to another great term with the fabulous learners in room 4!!!!

Todays Reflections....

A new phase...

We are learning in a different way this term..... we are focussing on co-operative learning, where working on a group towards a common goal challenges our thinking and key competencies.

I have been very impressed with the classes ability to articulate how teamwork looks and what they need to do to support each other.
It is a challenge for everyone, in their own unique way, but building strong learning relationships and working collaboratively will give us many skills that we can continue to develop over time.

Here are a few snap shots of the collaborative thinking that has already taken place this week!!!

Keep up the great work kids.... when something is new, it can be a bit tricky,
but we will master it!!!!!

YOU ROCK!!!!
