Welcome to another week.....

A huge thanks and congratulations to you all for supporting our self management tasks last week!

Today we are bringing home a wee sheet for our mihi.  Could you please help your child fill in some information, don’t panic if not, we will sort it at school on Tuesday.  Could these please be returned to school on Tuesday so we can get to work on our mihi during the school day.

Are you free on Thursday?  For Art Intensive this time, we are doing stitchery.  As you can imagine, it cold be a bit challenging, lots of needles to thread and knots to tie if you are free and want to join in the fun, please let me know probably between 9.30 and 12 would be the most help for our budding sewers.

Last week, we looked at the key competency of participating and contributing ask you child what this means and what it looks like in the classroom.

Am looking forward to seeing everyone in the PJs this Wednesday and remember it is a gold coin donation.

We continue to work on our goals and finding evidence of achieving them in our work.

Next week, we are going to be focussing on photography and descriptive writing!  Can’t Wait!!!

Self Management....

Avoid Distractions

Quote of the day....

(Taken on the computer, that is why it is back to front)

We are learning what Participating and Contributing looks like......

We are working through the key competencies, making sure we know what they mean and how we use them at school and in everyday life.

We had to find out what participating means - we found out that it was a verb so we have to do something - we have to take part.  Contributing is also a verb, again we have to do something, this time we need to make sure we give something, it could be an idea, an opinion, a solution or a piece of work.

Today we worked on a group task.
We all had the same set of instructions, the same equipment and the same time limits.
We all had the same goal, to work as a team and meet our target.

It was a challenge for some students and others leadership qualities shone through.  We had a challenging time meeting deadlines, but in the end we showed perseverance and determination to get the job done.  We showed we had great communication skills and it was fantastic to hear the quality conversations going on throughout the task.  We supported and encouraged each other and demonstrated our virtue of teamwork.

Here are some of the comments from the children using yellow, black and green hat thinking.

Yellow Hat: - all the positives

  • We used team work - all had a job and we did it
  • We searched for the things we needed together
  • We shared equipment
  • We organised our layout
  • We concentrated on our work
  • We took turns
  • We made a plan
  • You had to do your job really well
  • We worked to each others strengths - we used our talents
  • We were responsible for what we needed to do in our group
  • We showed determination

Black Hat - negatives or things we found tricky

  • Thinking about our layout and presentation
  • Finding all the parts that we need
  • Cutting things out neatly
  • Giving up the control
  • Sticking things on
  • Spacing
  • Staying on task and working with stamina

Green Hat - what would we do differently next time

  • Go slower and thinking about the end product
  • No panicking about meeting the time deadline
  • Work harder and be more organised
  • Try our best all the time
  • Think how I can help my group by doing something after my job.
Well done room 4, you are fabulous at using the hats to focus your thinking!
Make sure you turn that thinking into actions to show the virtue of excellence.

Participate in a small task,Leave your contribution here

We are Managing Ourselves!!!

That is the aim this week.....

We have been looking at ways we can manage ourselves within the classroom.
Most of us know what we need to do but sometimes forget to do it.
It seems that being organised and responsible for our own gear is high on our list of priorities.
We have all set a goal and are working hard to achieve points for all the Self Managing Actions we show.

Good luck everyone!!!!
Thanks to our wonderful parents for their support with this :-)

What an awesome finish to the week!!!!!

One of our school virtues is TEAMWORK!!!

Today I have been so very impressed with the wonderful supportive attitude of the children in the class.  We are so amazing at sharing our knowledge.  We decided today that we are all teachers as we all have something that we can teach each other.
Look at us working together and also working hard to show the virtue of EXCELLENCE!!!

I wonder if anyone from this fabulous class will win a spin on the virtues wheel - we have lots of names in that box!!!!!

Congratulations Sahara!!!!

You have moved up a step on our basic facts race!!!!

Congratulations Ashleigh!!!

You have learnt your doubles to 20!  Move up on the track and set another goal!!!!!

Room 4 are awesome basic fact racers!

The Race is on!!!

Congratulations to Kate!

Kate is the first person to move up on our basic facts race track!

I wonder who is going to be the next person to reach their goals?

I know that Jade, Maia, Aimee and Riki-Lee are very close to earning the next step on the race track!!!!

We went for a walk.....

Today, our used our senses to focus our thinking as we wondered through the environmental area.
We came back and wrote four sentences that described what we saw, heard, felt and what it made us think about.

Here is an example of our writing:

I see shiny bright cars zooming past on the road.
I hear the noisy birds tweeting on the tree branches.
I feel squishy grassy and sand.
I wonder if it is going to be windier tomorrow.

By Aimee

I see the birds flying in the sky.
I hear the trees that are noisy.
I feel happy.
I wonder when the chrysalis will open.
By Kyzah

I see the cars zooming on the bumpy road.
I hear the birds tweeting.
I fell happy because this was fun.
I wonder if any one is thinking like me.
By Jack

Keep an eye out for more awesome writing.

Magic E!!!!

This week we are looking at how the magic e works!
Here are some videos to remind us.
Magic E is a super dooper letter and when we add it to a word it has magical powers - and also makes us sing in an opera voice!!!! hahahaha
