Tower Challenge...

We had a mini challenge today....
What team can make the biggest tower made from paper?

It was a rocky road that was travelled to achieve success.  We needed to listen to each other, problem solve together, show perseverance and work to a deadline.

And the winning team....

On reflection, these dudes said.....
Jack said, "see I told you if we worked together we would get it done!"
Recko and D'Vontae commented "At first we didn't listen to each other and some gave up but then we listened and problem solved together and WE WON!"

A special mention to Kate, Ashleigh and Aimee that congratulated our winners and showed excellence in their attitude towards not winning :-)

Tidy Maths

We have been working hard to understand the tidy number strategy and how we can apply it to addition.
We have also been working on using the place value strategy and flipping our equations to help us solve subtraction problems.

Ask your Fab4 person to show you their learning.

Charlie and Kate are authors!!!!

What have you learnt?
Kate - When someone is talking, I need to show this by using speech marks.
Charlie - To remember to put full stops and capitals letters in the right places.

What would you do differently next time?
Get better at checking our work to make sure that our punctuation is right and our story makes sense.

What do you think about storybird?
I think it is good because when you get that picture it is easier to describe the picture rather than when you are thinking about stuff without a picture in front of you. (Kate)
I think Storybird is good to practise if you wanna be a real author, so you don't have to make millions of stories if you make a mistakes as a real author.  You can delete stuff instead of having to start all over again. (Charlie)

Jack and Ben's Storybird

What have you learnt?
Jack - make sure that you don't make a long story because you can get mucked up and the story might not make sense.
Benjamin - Make sure the story makes sense and we don't put random pages in just because we like the picture.

What would you do differently next time?
We would use a plan to help us organise our ideas so we don't get off track.

What do you think about Storybird?
Jack - it is awesome because you can get silly pictures and this makes me want to write more.
Benjamin - it is cool because you can write as much as you want and you can save stuff so you can come back to it later if you want to.

Arianna's Storybird...

Arianna says ....
I like storybird because it is fun and I can match my sentence to the picture that I pick.  It is fun.  It was tricky for me because i had to learn how to do it but next time I know what to do and I can do it by myself.

Recko and Riki-Lee's Storybird!!

Riki-Lee says " Our stories need to make sense and they need to match the pictures we pick."

Recko says " I still need to remember to use capital letters and full stop when I am working on technology."

What would you differently next time?
We would think harder about how we write our sentences and making sure they have all the parts they need.

What is your opinion of storybird?
Riki-Lee - I like it because it makes writing fun and I like the pictures that we can use.
Recko - It is cool because I can have really cools pictures and write about them, it makes me want to write more.

Options Day - Clay Creations

We have just finished our second day of options.  It has been a wonderful experience to work with children throughout the school.

We have learnt how to make a coil pot, to weld pieces together, to polish with silver spoons and we are all looking forward to making a sawdust kiln to set our creations on fire in our next session.

We are aiming towards creating a totem pole for the foyer and a tile artwork to celebrate our virtues.  Keep an eye out for the masterpieces when they are finished.

I have been really impressed with how children show perseverance and teamwork.  Some aspects of this has been challenging but our confidence is growing all the time.

A special thank you to Renaee for her support, op shopping, brick and sawdust gathering and the encouragement given to the artists in our group.

Here is a slideshow to see what has been happening.....

Jade and Sophia's first storybird....

Jade says - we learnt that we have to take things slower and think about what we are saying.
Sophia says - we have to make sure that our ideas make sense for our audience.

What would we do differently next time - we will slow and think our idea through, we could plan our ideas first, re-read our story as we go and think about who is going to read it.

Storybird - We like it because we get to make our own stories, we can make a story that we want and it comes form our imagination.
